The Department of Plastic Surgery, microsurgery and Burn Unit belongs to the State Hospital of Athens, the second largest Hospital with a capacity of 700 beds. It has 21 beds for general plastic surgery and four beds in the intensive care Burn Unit.
The staff of the Department, which includes six specialists and six trainees, annually performs a wide spectrum of plastic surgical operations. There is an average of 150 burns and 900 admissions per year. The outpatient department is visited by 2500 chronic cases and 2000 acute cases annually.
In addition to that a pigmented skin lesion clinics is open three times a week. Follow-up for the melanoma patient and dermatoscopy nevi control is applied. Our Department together with the histopathology Department is approved as collaborating Center by the WHO melanoma group.
Our Burn Unit is the only one accepting inhalation injuries form the central and south Greece.
